WORLD-    An ISIS “General” known as Omar “The Chechen” al-Shishani has been, at the very least, critically injured in a US Omar al-ShishaniAirstrike in Northern Syria this past March 4th, 2016. Initially, reports came out that al-Shishani had been killed, but intelligence officials have walked that back.
Al-Shishani has had a $5 million reward on his head by the US State Department since he ‘went rogue’ and left the Georgian Republic’s Military to first go with Al Qaeda, then with ISIS in 2013.
Al-Shishani was considered a rising star in the Georgian Republic’s military before he decided to abandon the republic and switch sides. He was named the Northern commander of ISIS in 2014. He was later declared ISIS’ Minister of War. He was the second most recognized leader of ISIS, with his distinctive red beard and formidable military reputation.
The airstrike happened, according to Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook, near al-Shaddadi. In addition to Shishani, the US also claimed 12 other high ranking ISIS fighters were killed in the airstrike.
Al-Shishani received his military training in Georgia from 2006 to 2010. He was in the elite special forces, earning high marks throughout his training. His unit received direct training from American Special forces.
McClatchy DC quoted a former fellow solider in al-Shishani’s unit as saying, “He was a perfect soldier from his first days, and everyone knew he was a star. We were well trained by American special forces units, and he was the star pupil.”
McClatchy quoted another source from the Georgia Defense Department as claiming, “We trained him well, and we had lots of help from America. In fact, the only reason he didn’t go to Iraq to fight alongside America was that we needed his skills here in Georgia.”
During the brief 2008 war between Russia and Georgia, America did send in “Military Advisors” to help the Georgians fight the Russians. It is during this time that al-Shishani’s Unit received the training by American special forces.
