National News- In the first major national poll taken entirely after the New Hampshire Primaries and the GOP South Carolina Debate, GOP Presidential Debate, Donald Trump has fallen to second in an NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll. According to this poll, Ted Cruz has overtaken Trump with 28% of the vote to Trump’s 26%.
Last month’s poll saw Donald Trump leading Cruz 33% to 20%. The poll could be an outlier, as other polls show Trump still holding leads between 10 and 20 points over Cruz, and, in one poll, over Rubio.
However, these polls were not conducted entirely after the South Carolina GOP Debate, a debate pundits have argued would produce a drop in the polls for Trump after his stance on the Iraq war and 9/11.
The poll was conducted by a Republican, Bill McInturff, and a Democrat, Peter Hart. Is this a fundamental change in the campaign or merely an outlier? Only after a few more polls come out that, like this poll, were conducted entirely AFTER the South Carolina GOP debate, will anyone have any real answers.
But, for Cruz, the poll gives him something to crow about, at least for now.
